Since early childhood, Dick has had a passion for the outdoors, driven by his scouting, fishing, hunting and trapping. This passion led to a career in forestry, and following retirement from TVA’s Natural Resources Organization, a second career as an outdoor photographer.

In 1988, when Dick began his serious pursuit of learning photography and taking photos, he made his first shot that he sold to Hallmark Cards. Shortly after that, he paved the way for other photographers, by having his work juried in as the Craft Shop’s first photographer. Since then, he has continued to make his photos, many of them award winners, available in the Appalachian Arts and Crafts Shop.

Dick recently intensified his interest in bird and wildflower photography, and will continue to offer these and others at the Shop.
