Wes Loukota developed an interest in working with wood at an early age. During and after a twenty year U.S. Navy career, Wes continued his woodworking building furniture and small projects with salvaged wood. He then started doing lathe turning, took several courses at Arrowmont and has been turning since 2003. Wes is a juried member of the East Tennessee Woodworkers Guild, the Foothills Craft guild, the Appalachian Arts Craft Center, and Smoky Mountain Woodturners.
Wes says this about his art: “I work with wood because I really enjoy the feel of the wood and the natural gifts that I find in that wood – the grain patterns, the color, the smell of the cut wood. I like to highlight the natural defects and patterns in the wood with dyes, turquoise inlays, and carving.”
