Bonnie Licata–calligraphy/painting, doll clothes

Calligraphy/Painting

Calligrapher, painter, seamstress & pastor. I have been drawing and painting as far back as I can remember. I started studying calligraphy in 1978 with an adult education class in the Los Angeles area. When I returned to New Haven, Connecticut,  I continued learning from some of the nation’s top calligraphers. For 18 years I was an exhibiting member of the Calligraphers’ Guild of New Haven.  Most of my calligraphic pieces have included water color illustrations.

A transplant to east Tennessee in 2016, I continually grab every opportunity to expand my skills in the areas of calligraphy, acrylic painting, water color, gouache, and urban sketching.

“Life and death are in the power of the tongue.” (Proverbs 18:21) …And in the power of the pen, the paint brush, the camera, etc. Therefore speak life, write life, paint life! What matters most to me in my work is to speak life into people’s lives, with positive, encouraging words and bright images.

Commissions will be considered.

Doll Clothes

I am now making doll clothes for 18″ dolls (e.g. American Girl Dolls™) in four fun & interesting clothing categories: Appalachian, Civil War, Native American, and Holidays

For the most part, I use natural fiber fabrics (cotton, wool, linen), and sometimes embellish them with antique lace and antique buttons. Every seam possible is hemmed, serged or encased. Most have Velcro closures, which are easy for children to work with. These are my own designs, historically & regionally researched. They are educational, yet stylized to be fun and appropriate for children’s dolls.

I will consider special orders.
