I am a resident of Oak Ridge, TN, but was raised on a farm in upstate New York. As a child I collected rocks and bugs and loved to draw and paint. I went to art school for a while but never finished. Very soon after moving to Oak Ridge with my new husband I started taking pottery classes. It was then that I knew I had found the creative medium that fit my personality and interests. That was about 37 years ago with a gap of 25 years in the middle when I didn’t do any pottery, but always knew I would get back to it.
I love the idea of something being useful and feeling good in the hands of the user, while also being aesthetically pleasing. Special attention is given to such things as comfortable handles, pot bottoms which will not catch water in the dishwasher, glazes which are food safe, spouts that pour well, and all those things which make a piece pleasant to use. When function has been taken care of I can then have fun with the decoration of the piece and the glazing.
