Have you ever wanted to capture photographic images on fabric for use in creative projects? Are you drawn to the vivid colors of indigo blue? This workshop, hosted by alternative photo nonprofit The Big Camera (www.bigcamera.org) will teach artists and crafters how to work in the photographic medium of cyanotype.

Cyanotype, also known as blueprinting, is known for its hallmark cyan blue tones, though it can also be toned to be different shades. Cyanotype was one of the first photographic processes creating direct contact prints either from contact negatives or by using silhouettes. Though a variety of surfaces can be sensitized, including paper, this workshop may be especially appealing to fabric artists and quilters since it will focus on printing on fabric. All Materials Included.

ANIMAL SCULPTURES

with Nan Jacobsohn

Saturday and Sunday, November 9 – 10

9:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Human Beings have been fascinated with animals from primitive times. We have discovered images painted on cave walls and sculpted on ancient pottery. Even today we name cars after horses, cougars, antelopes, etc. There is an unselfconscious beauty that we admire in the creatures we share the planet with. In this workshop, the participants will create the animal of their choice in clay. Emphasis will be put on proportion, gesture, texture, and attention to detail as well as the technical aspects of sculpting in clay. An armature system will be utilized for creating standing figures.

Earlybird Cost: $165 members, $175 nonmembers.

After October 12, Cost: $175/$185.

Studio fees to be paid to teacher day of class: $40 (includes 25lbs of clay, glazes, and firings).

Registration deadline October 19.

Jacobsohn’s educational background includes a BA from Pasadena College in Art Education and a MLAS from Vanderbilt University. She spent the early part of her career as a high school art teacher in California, Massachusetts, and Georgia. She served as an art instructor at Cheekwood before becoming the director of education over both the art and botanical programs. In 1996 she made the decision to dedicate full time to her career as a sculptor. Her work has been successfully exhibited in galleries across the US and is in the collection of the Tennessee State Museum. She enjoys sharing her expertise through workshops at Arrowmont, Pecosin, Appalachian Craft Center and arts organizations in the US and Canada. Visit Jacobsohn’s website: Theclayhorse.com
