AACC is a truly unique organization. Consider all our center has to offer. Members run all the committees – shop, membership, nominating, PR, standards, building and grounds and finance. They also serve on the Board. The importance of occasionally volunteering to “take a turn” on commit-tees really shines through. The saying – many hands make light work- is so true!
The Center has an amazing and dedicated paid part-time staff in our Executive Director and Bookkeeper/Office Assistant. Our unique organization extends to our Executive Directors (ED) job description. Our ED takes direction from the AACC Board of Directors. Facilitates communication among the membership. Manages the shop, physical site and day-to-day operations of the Center and also the Center’s educational program.
Let me share a few specific tasks of our ED: Oversee the work of Office Assistant, Bookkeeper, and volunteers. Develop Educational program – maintain the program, recruit instructors, and offer a variety of classes. Oversee Educational Program – reserve classroom space, inform students and instructors of procedures, fees, and schedules. Assure building access and set-up/take-down assistance. Track fee collection, rescheduling and refunds. Prepare class descriptions and create flyers. Maintain communications with the Board and committees….. and this is just a portion of ED Katie’s duties.
Notice the underlined action words that describe the responsibilities of the ED. Missing from the description are the words plan, raise funds, set goals, make decisions, and execute plans. Our Board and Committees are where the decisions, the planning, and actual work to complete our goals takes place.
